Expert Microbiology Testing

Labstat offers a full suite of microbiological tests to verify the safety and quality of a variety of consumer products. Whether you need microbiology testing for nutritional and dietary supplements; testing for Health Canada compliance; testing for tobacco/nicotine and cannabis products; or stability testing for dietary supplements & natural health products (NHP), our expert team can help.

Microbiology Testing for Tobacco, Nicotine, and Cannabis Products

Our ISO 17025-accredited microbiology testing laboratories provide all the assays tobacco/nicotine product manufacturers need to fulfill your PMTA and other regulatory requirements with no sub-contracting. In addition, we offer a full range of chemistry, in vitro toxicology, and stability testing, allowing you to work with a single provider for all your testing. This reduces time wasted on paperwork and data management while improving turnaround times and service.

For cannabis licensed producers, our services include all microbiological testing needed to meet Health Canada Cannabis Regulations for microbial contaminants, helping you verify safety and quality.

Our standard microbiology testing assays are listed below:

$

USP <2021> Microbial Enumeration Tests

  • Total Aerobic Microbial Count (TAMC) (USP <2021>, <61>) – Measures total culturable bacteria contained in a sample.
  • Total Yeast and Mold Count (TYMC) (USP <2021>, <61>) – Estimates total number of viable yeast and mold present in a sample.
  • Enterobacterial Count (Bile-Tolerant Gram-Negative Bacteria) (USP <2021>) – Similar to TAMC but detects bacteria microbes that thrive in an anaerobic environment.
$

Microbial Toxin Assays

  • Mycotoxins (Aflatoxins) – LC/MS/MS method capable of quantifying B1, B2, G1, and G2 Aflatoxins to USP <561> levels.
  • Bacterial Endotoxin Test – Quantifies endotoxins (lipopolysaccharides) from gram-negative bacteria using Low Endotoxin Recovery (LER) (USP<85>).
  • β-D-glucan Detection – Quantifies β-D-glucan (fungal cell wall component) – colorimetric or turbidimetric analysis.

USP <2022> Microbiological Procedures for Absence of Specific Microorganisms

  • Pathogen testing (USP <2022>, <62>) – Qualitative test for presence/absence of Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Salmonella spp., Clostridia spp., Pseudomonas aeruginosa, fungal organisms.
  • Expanded capabilities include real-time PCR-based testing for various pathogens and contaminants – qPCR (TPC, TYM, GNBT, Escherichia coli, Salmonella spp., Pseudomonas, Staphylococcus aureus).

Additional Assays

  • Microbial suitability testing (USP <2021>, <2022>).
  • Antimicrobial Effectiveness Testing (USP <51>) – Challenges preserved products with a variety of microorganisms representing a broad spectrum of contaminants.
